- 3 c. walnuts
- 1 c. currants
- 2 c. coarsely chopped mixed candied fruits and peels
- 1 1/2 c. snipped prunes
- 1 1/2 c. seedless raisins, chopped
- 1 c. candied cherries, halved
- 1/2 c. bourbon or orange juice
- 1 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. brown sugar, packed
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 2 c. cake flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Sift the first 3 ingredients; set aside.

2Cream shortening and sugar.

3Add eggs, vanilla and food coloring.

4Add sifted dry ingredients with buttermilk; mix and fold in last.

5Do not beat into batter.

6Bake at 350° for 30 minutes in 2 (9-inch) greased and floured pans or in Bundt pan.

7Frost with white or red confectioners icing or drizzle glaze for that holiday touch.
