  • 3/4 c. lukewarm milk
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 c. soft shortening
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted flour

Directions

    Mix together the milk, sugar and salt; crumble yeast into mixture.

    Add egg and shortening; stir until shortening is melted. Add flour and beat for 1 minute, at least 100 strokes.

    Scrape down from sides of bowl.

    Cover with damp cloth and let rise at 85° until double in bulk (about 1 3/4 hours).
