Rivel Cake (Coffee)

  • 1 1/4 c. brown or granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. lard and butter or all lard (suppose Crisco or oleo, etc., can be used)
  • salt

Directions

    Mix and squeeze lightly in fist (the lumps are the rivels) and then break into pieces and put into a pie plate.

    Place pieces (about the size of a small walnut or hickory nut) in a square pan and bake at 325° to 350° until lightly brown or slightly hard. Serve in a cereal dish with hot coffee poured over it (seasoned as desired with milk and sugar).
