- 1 tsp. soda, dissolved in hot water
- 2 c. flour
- dash of salt
- 1 c. chopped dates or raisins
- 1/2 c. nuts
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar.

2Add eggs, vanilla, and soda and mix well.

3Add salt and flour and mix.

4Add nuts and raisins or dates.

5Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes.
