  • 1 qt. milk, scalded
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • flour
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda

    mix in the shortening and sugar, stirring

    sugar is dissolved.

    Cool to lukewarm.

    Add 1 package

    yeast

    flour to make a cake-like batter. Let rise about 2 hours in a warm place.

    Stir down and add the salt, baking powder and soda.

    Add enough flour to now form a stiff batter.

    Roll out, cut and let rolls rise until double. Bake in moderate oven, about 350° until done.

    Makes 90 to 95. This is an old recipe. It always turns out good for me.
