Ingredients

  • 1 c. hot water
  • 1 tsp. salt (optional)
  • 6 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 pkg. RapidRise yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 to 4 c. sifted flour

Directions

    Combine first 4 ingredients; stir well.

    Let shortening dissolve.

    Sprinkle yeast in warm water; let stand about 5 to 10 minutes, then add to first mixture.

    Put well beaten egg into mixture.

    Add mixture to flour; mix well, etc.

    Let rise, as desired, and bake at 425° for 12 to 15 minutes or until brown. Makes 2 dozen.
