Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. milk, scalded
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. butter or shortening
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water (about 100~)
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 6 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. rum extract
  • 1/2 c. chopped raisins (optional)

Directions

    Scald milk and pour into mixing bowl.

    Add 1/2 cup sugar, butter and salt.

    Mix until butter melts. In a separate bowl, sprinkle the dry yeast into the 1/2 cup warm water.

    Add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and swirl to moisten each granule.

    Let rest and proof for 5 minutes.
