- 3 c. butter
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. lemon or vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 3 c. flour
- 1/2 oz. rum extract
Directions

1Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and cream well.

2Add eggs; cream well.

3Sift dry ingredients together.

4Add with buttermilk alternately, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Beat after each addition.

5Add flavorings.

6Bake in slightly greased and floured tube pan at 375° for 15 minutes, then decrease temperature to 350° for 30 minutes.

7Let the cake remain in the pan for 5 minutes after removing from the oven.
