  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. warm water
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar (or 3 packets Sweet 'N Low)
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in warm water.

    Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar together.

    Cut in shortening.

    Add yeast and water mixture and the buttermilk.
  5. 5
    Roll out and cut into biscuits. Bake at 425° for 20 to 25 minutes.

    They may be frozen and popped into a hot oven just before serving.
