- 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 3 Tbsp. melted butter
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. basil
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 2 c. small cubes of toasted white bread
- 2 (14 1/2 oz.) cans Contadina stewed tomatoes
Directions

1Saute chopped onion in melted butter in saucepan.

2Add sugar, basil, salt, pepper and small bread cubes.

3Arrange 1 can of tomatoes in a buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole.

4Top with half of bread mixture.

5Repeat layers.

6Bake, uncovered, in a moderate oven (375°) for 40 to 45 minutes.
