- 3 c. plus 3 Tbsp. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 6 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. well chilled butter, cut into pieces
- 1 c. (about 4 oz.) pitted dried sour cherries or other dried fruit such as currants, raisins or apricots, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
- 10 Tbsp. milk
- 1 egg, beaten to blend
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Lightly grease large baking sheet.

3Sift together flour, sugar and baking powder.

4Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal.

5Stir in dried fruit.

6Combine milk and egg.

7Mix into dry ingredients.

8Gather dough into ball.

9Roll dough out to 1/2-inch thick on lightly floured surface.

10Cut into 2 1/2 to 3-inch rounds.

11Gather scraps, re-roll and cut out additional rounds.

12Arrange on baking sheet, spacing 1/2 inch apart.

13Bake until firm to touch, about 20 minutes.

14Serve warm or room temperature.

15Really cute for a buffet if you make mini-size scones, about 1-inch.
