- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 6 Tbsp. shortening
- 2/3 c. sour milk or sour cream (use buttermilk if available)
Directions

1Sift flour and measure; sift all dry ingredients.

2Cut in shortening with pastry blender and finish working it in with the tips of the fingers.

3Add milk and mix to a soft dough.

4Knead lightly, cut in half, shape each piece into a round, roll out and try to keep in nice shape.

5Cut in four.

6Bake on a moderate griddle until evenly browned.

7Makes 16 triangular scones.
