- 1/2 lb. butter (no substitution)
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
Directions

1Put soft (not melted) butter, flour and sugar into bowl.

2Cut butter into mixture.

3Knead with knuckles and fingertips until dough becomes round and soft and no crumbs remain.

4If crumbs remain or it looks dry, it has not been kneaded enough.

5(Don't use electric mixer.)

6Place dough in 9 x 13-inch baking pan and flatten out evenly with back of spoon.

7(Do not grease pan.)

8Prick all over with fork.

9Place in preheated 325° oven for about 35 minutes. Remove from oven and cut into small squares.

10Lightly sprinkle top with fine coat of sugar.

11Remove from pan and place on wire cake rack.

12Place cookies on rack into oven at 275° for about 30 minutes.

13(Watch both times, do not overbrown.)

14Makes about 50 pieces.
