Ingredients

  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. dark Karo
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. nuts (optional)

    In 2 quart saucepan combine sugar, syrup and water.

    Cook; stirring constantly until sugar dissolves and starts boiling. Cook on medium heat, without stirring, to 260° (hard ball). Remove from heat.

    In large bowl beat egg whites to stiff peak. Gradually pour hot syrup over egg whites; beating constantly on high 6 minutes.

    Add vanilla; keep beating for 10 more minutes until soft peaks form and starts losing gloss.

    Add nuts; mix. Let stand 2 minutes.

    Drop by teaspoon onto buttered baking sheet. Bake 20 minutes at 300°.
