- 1 c. milk
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 4 Tbsp. honey or maple syrup
- 1 cake yeast
- 1 c. warm water
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 4 c. whole wheat flour
Directions

1Scald milk; add salt, butter, syrup and 3/4 cup of warm water. Stir well.

2Let cool to lukewarm.

3In the remaining 1/4 cup water, dissolve the yeast; add to other mixture.

4Add flour gradually and knead into a smooth ball.

5Place in buttered bowl and brush top with soft butter.

6Let rise to double its bulk. Knead lightly this time and shape into loaf in pan.

7Again brush with soft butter and let rise to twice its bulk.

8Bake at 350° for 50 to 60 minutes.
