Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic
  • 3 tsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 can tomatoes, drained and chopped
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. tabasco
  • 1/2 to 1 cup cut okra
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. gumbo file, optional
  • Rice

Directions

    Clean or thaw shrimp.

    Saute onion, celery, and garlic in oil until tender.

    Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, worcestershire, salt, sugar, chili powder, tabasco, and okra.

    Simmer uncovered for 45 minutes.

    Add shrimp and green pepper.

    Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Add file and stir just before serving over rice.
