Ingredients
- 2 onions, sliced
- 1/2 green pepper, sliced
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1/4 c. butter
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
- 1 lb. canned or fresh okra
- 3 beef bouillon cubes
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 4 tsp. Worcestershire
- 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/3 tsp. chili powder
- pinch of sweet basil
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 3 c. water
- 1/2 to 1 lb. shrimp
Directions

1Saute onions, green pepper and garlic in butter.

2Blend in flour.

3Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture is bubbly and vegetables are tender.

4Remove from heat.

5Add remaining ingredients except shrimp.

6Simmer 1 to 2 hours.

7Just before serving, add shrimp.

8Simmer 10 minutes.

9Serve gumbo over cooked rice.

10May add Tabasco to gumbo for taste.
