  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 6 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Sift together flour, soda, baking powder and salt.

    Combine buttermilk and vanilla.
  4. 4
    Add dry mixture to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating constantly after each addition.

    Fold in egg whites.
