Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Oil
  • 1/2 whole Onion, Diced
  • 1 clove Garlic, Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1/2 teaspoons Ground Coriander
  • 3-58 ounces, weight Red Lentils
  • Boiling Water, Enough To Cover The Lentils
  • 1/2 whole Vegetable Stock Cube

Directions

  1. 1
In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the oil.
  2. 2
Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. 3
Add the spices and cook for 1 minute further, stirring constantly.
  4. 4
Add the lentils, and add enough boiling water to easily cover them.
  5. 5
Sprinkle the stock cube over the top.
  6. 6
Simmer for 25 minutes, stirring every few minutes, until the lentils are soft and have cooked down to a thick paste.
  7. 7
You may need to add more water if your dal begins to dry up.
  8. 8
I prefer my dal to be fairly thick, but you might prefer a runnier mixture.
