- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 3/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 c. milk
Directions

1In a bowl, combine the flours, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar.

2Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.

3Add egg and milk, stirring quickly and briefly.

4Knead lightly on floured board.

5Roll or pat gently to 1-inch thickness. Cut into 1-inch to 2-inch biscuits.

6Place in a greased 10-inch iron skillet or on a 9-inch square pan.

7For crusty biscuits, separate on a cookie sheet.

8Bake at 450° for 12 to 15 minutes. Yield:
