  • 3 lbs turnips (rutabaga)
  • boiling water
  • 6 tablespoons butter or 6 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon white pepper
  • 14 cup half-and-half
  • 3 -4 tablespoons light rum

    Wash and peel rutabaga's.

    Cut in pieces.

    Place in saucepan and add boiling water to cover.

    Bring to boiling; cook uncovered until tender (about 30 minutes).

    Drain well and return to pan.

    Add rest of ingredients and mash well (using electric mixer) until smooth and fluffy.

    Serve hot, topped with a dollop of butter.
