- 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
- 1 pkg. caramels
- 1 stick margarine
- 1/3 c. milk
- 3/4 c. chocolate chips
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- whipped topping (for frosting)
Directions

1Prepare the cake mix according to package directions.

2Pour half the batter into a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.

3Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.

4Melt the caramels with margarine and milk in saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently.

5Pour over the baked cake.

6Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts.

7Spoon remaining cake batter over the caramel layer; bake at 250° for 20 minutes and increase the temperature to 350°.

8Bake for 10 minutes longer. Yields 16 to 20 servings.
