  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 lb. caramels
  • 1 stick (1/2 c.) butter
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 1 c. chopped pecans
  • 3/4 c. chocolate chips
  • whipped cream

Directions

    Preheat oven to 350°.

    Prepare cake mix according to package directions.

    Pour 1/2 of the batter into a 13 x 9-inch greased and floured pan, reserving the rest.

    Bake for 20 minutes.

    Melt caramels.

    Add margarine and milk; stir to blend.

    Pour caramel mixture over the baked cake.

    Sprinkle with pecans and chocolate chips.

    Spoon the reserved cake batter over all.

    Reduce oven to 250° and bake cake for 20 minutes.

    Return oven temperature to 350° and bake and additional 10 to 15 minutes.
