Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. baking molasses
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1 c. boiling water
  • 2 well beaten eggs
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cloves

Directions

    Put sugar, molasses, butter, soda, ginger, cloves, cinnamon and butter in bowl and dissolve 2 teaspoons soda in 1 cup boiling water.

    Hold soda water over bowl as it foams over cup.

    Beat together. When well beaten, add 2 well beaten eggs the last thing before baking.

    Bake in an oblong pan at 325° for 45 to 50 minutes.

    Serve with whipped cream or as desired.
