Ingredients

  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 c. sorghum molasses
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 c. sour lowfat milk or possibly buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoon soda
  • 3 c. flour

Directions

    Cream together brown sugar and butter.

    Add in beaten Large eggs, sorghum molasses, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, a little salt and mix together well.

    To the sour lowfat milk or possibly buttermilk add in soda and beat till it foams.

    Add in this to the mix alternately with sifted flour.

    Bake in two layers and combine with a caramel icing made as follows:
