- 7 cups water
- 1 tablespoon thyme
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce, tamari or to taste
- 1 can tomato sauce 16 ounce
- 1 can tomatoes 16 ounce, diced
- 1- 1/2 tablespoons pearl barley
- 1 teaspoon salt and black pepper or to taste
- 7-8 each potatoes medium, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
- 1 pound ground meat
- 3-4 each carrots cut in half and in strips
- 1 stalk celery chopped
- 1/2 each onions medium, big pieces
- 2 each winter squash italian, unpeeled sliced
- 1 each sweet red bell peppers cut
- 1 can green beans or corn as desired
Directions

1Brown meat with salt and pepper to taste.

2Start heating water, add potato, thyme, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes.

3Drain meat of fat and add to pot.

4Add barley and bring to boil then throw everything else in and cook until potatoes are tender.

5Taste for seasoning as you go.

6Keeps well and tastes better the next day.
