- 2 eggs
- sugar
- 1 c. sourdough starter
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. melted lard
- 4 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
- fat for frying
Directions

1Beat eggs and add 1 cup sugar together.

2Add starter, buttermilk, lard and dry sifted ingredients.

3Mix well.

4Turn out dough and knead on a floured board until smooth.

5Roll to 1/2 inch thick and cut with 2 3/4-inch doughnut cutter.

6Put on a greased cookie sheet and let rise for 30 minutes.

7Fry in hot deep fat until golden brown and done.

8Roll in sugar.
