- 2 14 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 34 cup warm water
- 2 eggs
- 14 cup shortening
- 13 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons nutmeg
- 3 12 cups flour
- 24 currants or 24 raisins
- 1 egg, beaten
- 24 jelly beans
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Add eggs, shortening, sugar, salt, nutmeg and 1 3/4 c flour and beat 2 minutes on medium speed, scraping bowl frequently.

3Mix enough remaining flour to make dough smooth, scraping sides well.

4Cover and let rise in warm place until double (about 45 minutes).

5Punch down dough and turn onto lightly floured board.

6Divide dough into 24 equal parts.

7Shape 12 parts into plump ovals about 4 inches long - this will be the bodies.

8With slightly more than half of each of the remaining parts shape 12 balls for the heads.

9With the remaining parts shape 12 4 inch ropes, and cut into half for arms.

10Assemble figures and place about 3 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.

11Press currants or raisins into heads for the eyes.

12Let rise again until double (about 45 minutes)

13Heat oven to 350.

14Brush rolls lightly with beaten egg.

15Bake 15 minutes or until golden.

16For antenna: Insert toothpick for antenna and top with a jelly bean.
