Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. oil
  • 1 lb. stew meat, cut in small pieces
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, cut fine
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. each: marjoram, thyme and allspice
  • 1 large (No. 2 1/2) can whole tomatoes
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 large can mushrooms and liquid

Directions

    Heat oil in a large frying pan or Dutch oven and brown cubes of meat.

    When browned, add onion, garlic, spices, tomatoes, salt and pepper to taste.

    Cook slowly 2 or 3 hours, adding water as needed. When meat is tender, add mushrooms and liquid plus enough water to make 1 to 1 1/2 quarts of sauce.

    Thicken slightly with flour and water paste.

    Cook 1/2 to 1 pound spaghetti.

    Pour sauce over spaghetti.

    Serve with Parmesan cheese.
