Ingredients

  • end pieces of bacon, half frozen
  • 4 oz. can mushrooms
  • 1/2 small red onion
  • 1 can tomato juice
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 3 (6 oz.) cans water
  • small bay leaf
  • oregano to taste
  • sweet basil to taste
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 oz. olive oil
  • 1/3 lb. ground beef
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

    Brown bacon, mushrooms and onion in olive oil until brown.

    Do not let it get black.

    Blend tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, bay leaf, tomato juice, sugar and seasonings in a 2-quart saucepan. Stir in water.

    Use very low heat until all things are blended. Add browned base to sauce mixture.

    Slowly break ground beef into mixture (raw).

    Bring to a boil; reduce heat to very low and simmer for 2 to 6 hours, depending on time limit.
