- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 Tbsp. salad oil
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/2 c. celery, chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 3 Tbsp. parsley, chopped or dried
- 1 large can tomatoes
- 2 (6 oz.) or 1 (12 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1/3 c. Chianti wine
- 1 Del Monte hot chili pepper
Directions

1Brown onions, hamburger, peppers and celery in oil. Meanwhile, measure salt, pepper, oregano, sugar and garlic in bowl.

2When meat is brown, add tomato paste, wine, mushrooms, seasonings and chili pepper.

3Simmer very slowly at least one hour, preferably 3 or 4.

4Just before serving, take out chili pepper and stir in 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.
