Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

  • 5 or 6 small onions, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. Crisco
  • 3 small cans tomato paste
  • 1 qt. tomato puree
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 2 lb. country ribs (optional)
  • salt
  • pepper
  • dash of baking soda
  • sweet basil
  • bay leaf
  • oregano

Directions

    Cut up onions and brown lightly in Crisco or oil.

    Add chopped pepper and tomato paste; simmer about 5 minutes, stirring very often to keep from burning.

    Add 2 cans water for each can of paste.

    Add puree and sauce.

    Bring to a boil and add a pinch of soda and rest of spices to taste.

    If ribs are not used, I add some lightly fried ground beef for meat sauce.

    Add meat balls (do not fry first) and cook at least 3 hours over low heat.
