  • 1/2 c. light brown sugar (packed)
  • 8 to 10 cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces
  • 10 to 15 whole allspice
  • 20 to 25 whole cloves
  • 10 small red apples

    In a 6-quart kettle, bring all ingredients, except apples, to a boil.

    Simmer, uncovered, about 30 minutes.

    Strain through double layer of cheesecloth.
