  • 1 meaty ham bone or 2 c. ham, cut in large pieces
  • 1 lb. dried green split peas
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/2 c. chopped celery with tops
  • 2 to 3 sprigs fresh parsley
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 to 3 qt. water
  • salt and pepper to taste
