- 2 or 3 lb. ham end
- 2 carrots
- 1 onion (large)
- 2 potatoes
- 3 qt. boiling water
- 1 c. split peas
- salt and pepper
- 2 Tbsp. catsup
Directions

1Put the end of a moderately lean smoked ham in a kettle with carrot and peeled onion, whole potatoes and boiling water.

2Boil 1 hour and strain.

3Now rinse the ham thoroughly in hot water and return to strained stock, together with split peas, which have been soaked overnight and boil for 1 hour.

4Season with salt and white pepper and add catsup.

5Serve at once.

6Thin with boiling water if too thick.
