- 1 3/4 c. milk
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. mashed potatoes
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. salt
- 6 1/2 to 7 c. flour
Directions

1Scald milk.

2Add shortening, sugar, potatoes and water.

3Cool until lukewarm.

4Add yeast.

5Mix well.

6Add eggs and vanilla.

7Add salt and baking powder to flour and add to egg mixture.

8Mix well. Knead 5 to 7 minutes.

9Place in greased container.

10Brush the top of dough with melted butter.

11Cover and let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hour).

12Punch down; roll out to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut out donuts.

13Place on wax paper or greased cookie sheet.

14Let rise until double in bulk, about 1/2 hour.

15Fry in deep well at 375°.
