  • 1 c. cooked yellow squash, drained and mashed
  • 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 c. corn meal
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg

Directions

    Reserve water drained from squash.

    Combine all ingredients. Add squash water, if needed, for consistency.

    Drop by tablespoonfuls into deep fat to form balls the size of hush puppies.

    Makes 12 to 14 puppies.
