- 2 c. packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 lb. butter or margarine
- 1 tsp. salt
- 6 qt. freshly popped popcorn
- 1/2 c. light corn syrup
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
Directions

1In a 2 1/2-quart saucepan, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, cream of tartar and salt.

2Heat to boiling, stirring over medium-high heat.

3Stirring constantly, boil rapidly to hard ball stage (260°), about 5 minutes.

4Remove from heat.

5Stir in baking soda quickly, but thoroughly and pour at once over popcorn in large roasting or baking pan.

6Stir gently until all kernels are coated. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, stirring 2 to 3 times during baking.

7Turn out at once on waxed paper; spread apart and allow to cool completely.

8Break apart and store in tightly covered container.

9Makes 6 quarts.
