Strawberry Cake

- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp. grated lime zest
- pinch of ground cloves or ground nutmeg
- 1 pt. basket strawberries (3 1/4 c.)
- 1 frozen pound cake (16 oz.), thawed
- 1 (1/2 pt.) container heavy cream, well chilled
Directions

1Combine the first 4 ingredients in saucepan.

2Add 2 cups strawberries; mash strawberries in saucepan with potato masher. Bring to simmer, stirring until thickened.

3Cool to lukewarm.

4Cut cake lengthwise to make 3 layers.

5Spread about 2 1/2 tablespoons of strawberry mixture between each layer.

6Sandwich layers together.
