Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. lemon rind or 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

    Place butter and vanilla in bowl.

    Beat until mixture is smooth, about 2 minutes.

    Add gradually the sugar about 30 seconds and continue beating for 1 minute.

    Add eggs and beat for 30 seconds.

    Stop and scrape bowl.

    Sift dry ingredients.

    Turn mixer to speed and gradually add dry ingredients.

    Beat about 1 minute. Drop by teaspoons on greased baking sheet about 3-inches apart. Bake at 400° for 6 to 8 minutes.

    Sprinkle with sugar while hot. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
