Ingredients
- 1/2 c. dates or 12 prunes, cut up
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 c. water
- 1/2 c. vegetable shortening, margarine or butter
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 Tbsp. liquid sweetener
- 1 tsp. lemon extract
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°. Cut up dates or prunes into saucepan. Add raisins and water.

2Bring to a boil and simmer for 3 minutes. Add shortening.

3Mix, then cool.

4Add remaining ingredients and mix well.

5Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch pan.

6Place in preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.

7Do not overbake.

8When cool, cut into squares.
