Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. steak, cut into thin strips, 2 inches long
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. soy sauce
  • 1/4 c. water or mushroom stock
  • 2 medium onions, sliced thin
  • 1 green pepper, sliced in thin strips
  • 1 c. 1 1/2-inch strips celery
  • 1 can mushrooms, sliced thin
  • 1 bunch green onions, cut in 1-inch lengths, include tops
  • 1 can bamboo shoots, sliced thin

Directions

    Heat oil in skillet, add meat and brown lightly.

    Mix sugar, soy sauce and water.

    Cook half of this with meat.

    Push meat to one side of pan and add sliced onions, celery and green pepper. Cook a few minutes; add remaining soy sauce mixture, bamboo shoots and mushrooms.

    Cook 3 to 5 minutes.

    Add green onions; cook 1 minute more.

    Serve over rice.
