Swedish Nut Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 c. walnuts
  • 1 c. Spry or 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • 3 c. flour (level)
  • 2 tsp. baking powder (heaping)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Beat egg yolks and add to mixture. Sift baking powder, flour and pinch of salt together.

    Add milk and flour alternately to mixture, a little of each at a time.

    Flour nuts lightly and add to mixture.

    Beat egg whites separately and fold in carefully (do not beat).

    Bake at 350° to 375° (start at 375° and turn down to 350°, 40 to 50 minutes).

    Use a good sized pan.
