  • 1 1/2 c. blanched almonds
  • 2 c. California walnut halves
  • 1 c. sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 2 stiffly beaten egg whites
  • 1/2 c. (1 stick) butter

Directions

    Toast nuts in slow oven (325°) until light brown.

    Fold sugar and salt into egg whites.

    Beat until stiff peaks form, then fold in nuts.

    Melt butter in a 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch pan.

    Spread nut mixture over butter.

    Bake at 325° for about 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes, or until nuts are coated with a brown coating and no butter is left in pan.

    Cool.
