- 1 gal. cukes
- 1 gal. water
- 2 c. salt
- alum
- apple cider vinegar
- sugar
- spice
Directions

1Wash cukes and cut into chunks (1 gallon of chunks).

2Boil 1 gallon water with 2 cups salt.

3Pour over cucumbers in crock jar or plastic bucket.

4Weigh down.

5Let set 8 days.

6Drain and rinse well.

7Cover with 2 ounces of alum per gallon of boiling water. Let set for 24 hours.

8Drain and rinse (once).

9Cover with apple cider vinegar.

10Let set 8 to 24 hours.

11Drain.

12Layer: pickle, sugar and spice (use 10 pounds of sugar to 4 gallons of pickles). Let stand 2 days (makes its own syrup).

13Stir.

14Let stand 2 or 3 more days.

15Can or leave in crock.
