Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced or pressed (optional)
  • 1 (14 1/2 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. catsup
  • 1 to 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Dijon-style mustard
  • 4 large hamburger buns, split (plain or with sesame seed), buttered
  • 1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 c. shredded iceberg lettuce
  • diced tomatoes for garnish
  • black olives for garnish
  • taco sauce (if desired)

Directions

    In skillet, saute beef, onion and garlic until meat is no longer pink and onion is tender.

    Drain.

    Stir in tomatoes, catsup, chili powder to taste, salt and mustard.

    Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes or until most of the liquid has evaporated.

    Spoon meat mixture into hamburger buns.

    Top with shredded cheese and lettuce.

    Sprinkle with diced tomatoes.
