  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 sticks oleo (1 c.)
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 level tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/3 c. buttermilk
  • 4 c. plain flour

    Sift flour. Make big hole in middle and put all ingredients in hole. Add buttermilk. Mix with hands to make a stiff dough. Roll out and cut with cutter; don't roll too thin. Bake at 425° until done, but not too hard. Brown lightly with oven on broil.
