- 1/2 c. shortening (part butter)
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. sifted flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Mix well the shortening, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.

3Mix flour and salt.

4Stir in.
-
5Roll 1 teaspoon dough into balls.

6Dip in slightly beaten egg white and roll in finely chopped nuts.

7Place on baking sheet and press thumb into center of each.

8Bake 10 to 12 minutes.

9Fill cooked thumbprints with tinted confectioners frosting or candied fruit.
