- 1 1/2 c. butter-flavor Crisco
- 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 c. uncooked Quaker oats (quick or old-fashioned)
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. ground nuts
- fruit preserves for filling
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Beat Crisco and brown sugar until fluffy.

3Beat in egg and vanilla.

4Add combined oats, flour and salt; mix well.

5Add nuts; mix.

6Form into 1-inch balls.

7Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

8Press centers with thumb; fill with favorite preserves (apricot, strawberry and raspberry are very good).

9Combination of preserves makes a nice looking pattern. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

10Remove to wire rack; cool completely.

11Makes about 5 to 6 dozen.
