  • 10 oz. can tomato puree
  • 10 oz. can tomato juice
  • 1 c. granulated brown sugar
  • 8 slices day-old white bread
  • 1/2 c. butter

Directions

    Bring puree, juice and sugar to a boil.

    Simmer 10 minutes. Trim crusts from bread; cut bread into 1-inch squares.

    Melt butter, then dip squares quickly into butter and place in baking dish.

    Pour tomato mixture over squares.

    Do not stir.

    Push down lightly with fork until just coated.

    Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
